This news summary consists of two quotes.
The first is a tweet from the 47th President, his reaction to the Supreme Court’s decision on the illegality of Trump’s orders that restrict or make voting by mail impossible.
The second is a speech by Democratic Senator Chris Murphy in the Senate on Tuesday regarding a Putin oligarch paying for the wedding of the president’s son and being an honorary guest at the wedding.
These two quotes better than any comments or analysis characterize where America stands today, the abyss into which 49.8% of voters who participated in the 2024 presidential election and voted for a leap into the abyss, even while thinking they were voting for cheap gas and cheap eggs, have pushed it.
▶ On September 15th at 9:27 am, the 47th President published the following tweet on his social network:
“The Republicans just received another unfavorable decision from the Supreme Court of the USA—a decision where the Judicial System dragged its feet for an eternity, and then cited a lack of time to correct the situation with our absolutely CORRUPT and out-of-control mail-in voting system. This system is a real laughingstock around the world; we are the only country forced to endure this SCAM, which is destroying the country. Judges Alito and Thomas, true legends, strongly disagreed with this terrible, highly politicized verdict. It’s a serious loss for the Republicans and for all of America; now the Radical Left Dem-ocrats have a much easier time cheating with mail-in ballots—they have their hands untied! The Supreme Court has truly let our country down! Some judges are scared to death of these insane and vicious Democrats and are utterly unable to show the courage necessary to save our America. Their terrible decision on tariffs will cost the USA trillions and trillions of dollars for many years. They didn’t even specify that ‘the paid funds are non-refundable,’ playing into the hands of structures that sincerely hate our country and have BEEN RIPPING IT OFF FOR YEARS, instantly causing us an unjustified damage of Billions of Dollars. Likewise, the Supreme Court’s decision on Birthright Citizenship was a complete disaster for America and has already led to massive corruption in the issues of obtaining citizenship in our Country.
The damage done to America is incalculable, and they know it—as do everyone else: it’s irreparable, irrecoverable harm! The Court’s inability and unwillingness to do what is right for our Country will go down in history in a very negative light. The Radical Left Forces are using intimidation and persuasion to force this Supreme Court to make decisions that have set America back at least a hundred years. These are no longer the people I selected to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States; only a shadow of their former selves remains. This Court, with its monstrously erroneous verdicts, is costing the United States Trillions of Dollars, and the consequences of these decisions are so vast that it will be extremely difficult for our Country to recover and heal. This Court will go down in history as an entity that made some of the most destructive, painful, and devastating decisions in the history of our country. It is not easy for me to criticize the Supreme Court of the United States—I will likely pay dearly for it in the future—but I believe it is my duty and responsibility to do so for the America we love! “Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman.
Colleagues, today news broke: the Trump family confirmed that a Russian oligarch—a close associate of Vladimir Putin, a man who received his wealth as a gift from Putin—paid for the wedding of the U.S. President’s son, held on a private island. I am speaking here because I am deathly afraid that all of this will begin to be perceived as normal.
Allow me to repeat: a Russian oligarch, a close associate of our enemy Vladimir Putin—a man to whom Putin gifted his fortune—secretly paid for the wedding of the U.S. president’s son on a private island. The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., tried to hide this fact. He posted photos of the wedding celebration online. Public discussions were held about whether the president would attend the wedding. However, the president’s son did not mention that the entire event—with the rental of the private island and expenses running into hundreds of thousands of dollars—was funded by Russians. Moreover, in a group photo (which can be found online right now) among fifty guests, only one face is hidden—that of this oligarch. He was there precisely because he secretly paid for the celebration. The Russians paid for the private island. The Russians paid for the fireworks. The president’s son even entrusted this oligarch with organizing and logistics. It was a Russian party, organized and paid for by a man from Vladimir Putin’s inner circle. Such an event has never happened in the entire history of the United States of America. Never before has a foreign enemy of the U.S. paid for a presidential family wedding. Why? Because it is blatant corruption happening in plain sight. It borders on treason—accepting lavish gifts, gifts worth millions of dollars, possibly from an enemy of our country.
Let’s take a moment to talk about this oligarch.
We only learned about this today, so I apologize for the scarcity of details. I believe we will learn much more about this person in the coming days and weeks. His name is Umar Kremlev. He is a man with a criminal record. He heads a boxing organization funded by Putin—or more precisely, by Gazprom, Putin’s state gas company. He is not just an ordinary oligarch. He is one of Putin’s favorites. Apart from heading this boxing association, he manages the Russian lottery. He owns a monopoly on the sports betting market in Russia. Shortly before funding Trump’s wedding and attending it, Kremlev and Putin visited China together. Putin took him on a very important state trip to China. Putin awarded Kremlev one of the highest state honors—the Order of Friendship. The Ukrainian government has sanctioned Kremlev because he is in Putin’s inner circle. All of Kremlev’s money is Putin’s money. He acts as Putin’s tool, just like all the oligarchs created by Putin.
Until today’s revelation of information that he secretly financed Trump’s wedding, there was no evidence that Donald Trump Jr. and Kremlev were close friends – because they are not. It seems they met quite recently, and shortly after this acquaintance, this close associate of Vladimir Putin offered to pay for Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding. That’s what Eric Trump said today. When a journalist asked his office about Umar Kremlev, a close friend of Donald Trump Jr., the response was (quote): “Eric has no idea who this person is, and he has never even heard his name.” This is stated on behalf of Eric Trump – the brother of Donald Trump Jr. and his business partner. He has never heard the name of a close associate and friend of Donald Trump Jr., who fully paid for his wedding. Why? Because they are not friends. It is a business deal between the Trump family and the Russian government.
All this fits into two patterns. The first is the dependency of the Trump family’s business empire on Russian support. Donald Trump Jr. talked about this even before his father became president: “When it comes to the influx of capital into elite real estate in the U.S., Russians make up a very significant, disproportionately large share among buyers of our assets. Take, for example, Dubai, our project in Soho, or any properties in New York – we see huge funds coming in from Russia.” Recently, analysts studying cryptocurrency buyers associated with the Trump family have noted signs that this asset is supported – and possibly significantly – by Russian investors.
But there is a second, more important pattern. The Trump sons – and especially Donald Jr. – are simply unscrupulously cashing in on their access to the White House. Donald Jr., in essence, stuffs his pockets with money from everyone who wants to get any service from his father and eagerly grabs any government contracts he can reach. Before his father took the presidential office, Don Jr.’s fortune was estimated at $50 million. In the first year of Trump’s presidency, Don Jr.’s fortune did not double, triple, or quadruple – it grew sixfold in just one year: from $50 million to $300 million. At least 13 companies related to the Trump brothers received long-term federal contracts and commitments worth $1.8 billion, as well as $103 million in direct payments from the Trump administration; moreover, five of these companies received their first-ever government contract only after the Trump sons invested in them. This is corruption. And it doesn’t matter which administration is in power – Republican or Democratic.
One might take offense at all this, but someone might say, “Well, this is different. It’s not Trump Jr. taking money from taxpayers. He’s just taking money from the Russians. Isn’t that better than taking money from taxpayers?” Of course not, because Putin isn’t paying for a wedding out of the kindness of his heart. This is a deal happening in plain sight. Donald Trump has reversed U.S. policy toward the Russia-Ukraine war. He halted Ukraine’s funding: even after we allocated funds, he illegally refuses to spend them. Just this past weekend, he publicly claimed that Ukraine, not Russia, is to blame for continuing the war. Furthermore, Trump suspended sanctions on exporting Russian oil and gas, which directly aids “Gazprom,” a company financing the Kremlin. Trump has become one of Putin’s most important allies, and therefore – like everything else in Trump’s corrupt world during his second term – it turns into a mutually beneficial deal. Trump deprives Ukraine of support and fills the Russian government’s treasury by weakening sanctions, while the Russians funnel money to his family. Isn’t it obvious? Shouldn’t everyone be outraged that the wedding of the U.S. president’s son – a wedding costing millions of dollars – was paid for by the Russians, and he admits it himself?
I know there are many Republicans in the Senate shocked by how Trump has practically abandoned Ukraine, and I know there are many Republicans here outraged by this snowballing corruption. It’s doubtful there is any member of this house – whether Republican or Democrat – who would dare go on TV tonight and justify the situation where the Russian government pays for a Trump family member’s wedding on a private island. But at some point, there must be a line that the U.S. Senate recognizes as unacceptable – and does so unanimously. Does anyone here seriously believe that you would remain silent if Hunter Biden’s wedding or Malia Obama’s prom were paid for by allies of the Iranian ayatollahs? You would paralyze the entire Congress if that happened. And certainly, you can’t imagine such a situation under another administration. Despite all the hysteria about the “Biden crime family,” never before in our country have we had a White House situation where the funding of a family event by a foreign adversary would be seen as a trivial scandal barely making the front pages. Corruption has become so commonplace that to some it seems normal – but it doesn’t mean it is. If we in the Senate do not draw a clear red line soon – and do so on a bipartisan basis – it will be the end of our republic. Just its end.
