What frustrates me the most are statements like these from “ordinary Russians”: “Oh, nothing depends on us, we’re small and powerless people, Ukrainians, why do you blame all Russians for the invasion of Ukraine?!”
Well, of course. It’s personally Putin who fires missiles at Ukrainian cities. It’s personally Lavrov who drops bombs on our cities. It’s personally Gerasimov who hits the station in Dnipro with a drone, – what do “ordinary Russians” have to do with it? Surely, it’s not them running to the Russian army because it pays well, right?
Hypocrisy at its finest.

And another thing. Nothing depends on us? Really?
Ukrainians at one time did not allow the presidential elections to be falsified. Ukrainians later removed the government that lost control. During the war, Ukrainians did not allow anti-corruption bodies to be subordinated to the prosecutor general, the one who quickly fled abroad. Ukrainians literally this summer stood against the dismissal of the defense minister, which led to the replacement of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Ukrainians actually can influence the leadership of the country – and when needed, they do. We are fighting, among other things, to be able to influence our leadership. Primarily – during elections.
Therefore, I repeat, our Cossack and citizen are not the same as their serf. And that Ukrainians accuse Russians of aggression is because they still treat Russians as equals. As people capable of influencing the fate of their country.
In reality… In 19 regions (and possibly more), they have power outages even without our involvement, because the regions are in deficit and can’t afford repairs. They missed scheduled repairs of public utilities throughout the country, and that’s why in dozens of cities they can’t start the heating season – even without us. Prices have skyrocketed for them. Their recycling fee for cars may be higher than the car’s cost itself. So many entrepreneurs went bankrupt because the “Wildberries” warehouses burned down.
And what? Nothing. They remain silent. “Nothing depends on them.”
The problem is, it’s pointless to prove the advantages of freedom to a serf. The serf laments “we don’t want anyone to die,” but for us, it means the occupiers must leave, and for them – that we must surrender. And for this, they will hate us for decades – for not agreeing to capitulate to them.
Don’t believe it? Remember, even before the invasion, half a century after the last battle with the UPA, they still fiercely hated Bandera supporters – at the level of those same “ordinary Russians.”
It’s interesting to hear calls from “ordinary Russians” like “Stay human!”. One is tempted to say something like we will negotiate peace with “humans” (remember who they call “humans” in their jargon). And from them, nothing depends. So what have they become themselves?
