Last night, the entire capital heard ballistics. Over ten explosions in two minutes. One person died.
In Dnipro, Chernihiv, and Kremenchuk, today is a day of mourning. At the Dnipro station, Russians hit the platform where trains stood with a drone strike—15 dead. In Chernihiv, two 15-year-old girls died, in Kremenchuk—three people. Only strong Armed Forces can stop this.
And I want to remind you what army Ukraine faced the enemy with in 2014. In Crimea, 96% of the State Guard Service personnel sided with the enemy. There was no one to give commands. Over 70% of the military, along with the Naval Command led by the commander, betrayed their oath.
To organize defense, hundreds of Maidan self-defense fighters were sent to the front after week-long courses in school buses and tracksuits. This is the army we inherited from Yanukovych: demoralized, disbanded, recruited, and unable to carry out combat tasks.
Alexander Turchynov, then Acting President, writes about those events. I strongly advise reading his column in the “Ukrainian Pravda.” Especially to those who were abroad or in Moscow at that time and now take to telling how things should have been done.
In 2019, the government received from us a combat-ready Armed Forces and tens of billions in gold and currency reserves. And after their first three years of “effective” work, we see underfunding of the Armed Forces and the disbanding of brigades. So do not believe it when they shift the blame. Our priority was not “blah-blah-blah” but army, language, faith. If the army is their priority too, words must be backed by money. And money means the budget.
This week, the Verkhovna Rada passed an unfair budget in the first reading. The conclusion is clear: they are inadequate.
Salaries for prosecutors, judges, and law enforcement officers are being increased. But military financial support has not been raised for the fifth year. They say there is no money. There is for them, but not for the army.
Our team proposed to cut expenditures by 515 billion hryvnias and direct them to the Armed Forces. We fought day and night. But not a single, I emphasize, not a single amendment from “European Solidarity” was considered.
And at today’s meeting with the Armed Forces leadership, we were told that due to the rising fuel costs, the army is forced to reduce the purchase of drones and weapons. We will not tolerate this.
A budget without an increase in financial support is unacceptable for me as the fifth president and the leader of the opposition. I will do everything I can to strengthen the Armed Forces.
The fund provides the most necessary supplies weekly, and the sanctions imposed by anti-Ukrainian forces have not stopped us. On average, 60–100 million hryvnias per month. We do not collect this money through donations. It is from my family.
Today — 669 units of equipment and supplies worth nearly 25 million hryvnias for 15 divisions of the Ground Forces, the Air Assault Forces, the Special Operations Forces, the Navy, and the Air Force.
- Excavator-loaders — 4 units.
- Strike FPV drones “Bliskavka” with fixed wings — 100 units.
- Inverter generators — 145 units.
- Charging stations — 130 units.
- Autonomous diesel heaters — 290 units.
We continue to work.
