The European Solidarity faction held a meeting with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Yevgeny Khmara. As reported by Member of Parliament Iryna Friz, they discussed issues directly impacting the Defense Forces’ capabilities and state resilience.
The key topics included the funding deficit for the Ministry of Defense until the end of 2026 and possible ways to cover it, as well as the draft defense budget for 2027 and its correspondence to the real needs of the General Staff.
Ukraine’s fifth President, Petro Poroshenko, informed about the results of the international arms exhibition in Kielce, Poland, meetings held there, contracts signed, and opportunities to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities. “It is crucial for us to have a professional and substantive dialogue with the Ministry of Defense regarding resources, legislative decisions, procurements, human potential, and technologies needed at the front,” emphasized Petro Poroshenko.
“We separately discussed military procurement, supply, and unit staffing, mobilization issues, and terms of military service, the return of personal income tax to military units. We specifically talked about experimental regulations regarding SZZ and new contracts and the need for relevant legislative changes to ensure these mechanisms work systematically and have a proper legal basis,” writes Friz.
“Another important topic is equipping the Defense Forces with means to intercept reactive ‘shaheeds’: existing capabilities, needs, and decisions that need to be made right now. Our joint priority is to maximize our defense capability and improve the provision of the Defense Forces,” summarizes Iryna Friz.
