I was pleasantly surprised by the frank and meaningful meeting with the ambassadors of the EU member states in Ukraine.
Such dialogue between European partners and opposition representatives is important for strengthening multiparty pluralism, democratic resilience, and strong parliamentarism in Ukraine.
We discussed three key issues: ending the war and the path to achieving a just peace, advancing Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, and the state of democracy and the effectiveness of parliamentary work in our country.
I emphasized the need for an unconditional, comprehensive, and immediate ceasefire as the first necessary step towards peace. At the same time, it is fundamentally important for the European Union to be fully represented at the negotiating table regarding peace and the future security architecture. We also discussed ways to improve the effectiveness of the Verkhovna Rada, especially in terms of adopting legislation necessary to fulfill the European integration agenda.
We welcomed the decision to open the “Foundations” cluster in June and expect the opening of all other negotiation clusters shortly. This should become an important impetus for real reforms, the rule of law, the independence of anti-corruption institutions, and the strengthening of democratic standards.
We exchanged views on recent initiatives aimed at accelerating Ukraine’s European path. Agreed to continue the dialogue and coordinate positions considering the activation of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
European integration of Ukraine is not only a foreign policy goal but a path to a stronger state, a more robust democracy, more effective institutions, protected citizens’ rights, and a just lasting peace.
