America dealt a strategic blow to Ukraine during 2014-2019 by financing all that “anti-corruption” nonsense. The cries about unbearable corruption in Ukraine (which didn’t exist—there was just corruption) and the protection of free speech largely led to the rise of this trash to power now. America caused more harm to Ukraine than anyone, except the alliance of Putin with Kolomoisky’s criminal organization.
Now, in the US, the corrupt president is limiting press freedom because he doesn’t like how his corruption is being covered.
The year before, Trump canceled comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s show for a simple joke about himself. And “comedian Jimmy Kimmel” is a bit different than “comedian Volodya Zelensky”: he didn’t joke about the “US-porn actress.”
Trump also once called a female journalist a “pig.” Not “darling,” like Poroshenko once did, but much simpler—”quiet, piggy” for a simple question about Epstein.
It was this country that intervened in post-Maidan Ukraine’s affairs on how we should protect free media and combat corruption.
Biden’s team, like parrots, repeated all these lessons about “free media” and “fighting corruption,” but it turned out that in the US, a corrupt president is possible. And that media boycott doesn’t scare him much because he won the elections thanks to Twitter/X Musk, not the media that was already covering him critically.
Journalists in the US showed solidarity with colleagues. But this shows that there is journalism in the US, and at the same time, all this cheap media trash in Ukraine wasn’t worthy of being considered journalism. Zelensky’s shutdown of three opposition pro-Ukrainian TV channels was swallowed whole, and they continued to run to strange “off-record” meetings at the lord’s table. Because journalism in Ukraine is the service of organized crime groups.
Shavik Sustor was not free media, but a showman earning on free speech through murky schemes. He even confessed to this on air on Hromadske in 2014, how he directed “free speech,” ordered by Yanukovych’s administration, favorable to the Regionals and the Kremlin. After Maidan, Kolomoisky confirmed the generous payment for his broadcasts.
Journalists in Ukraine existed somewhere at the bottom of the food pyramid, but the main media in Ukraine were long divided among criminal families. The mafia bosses in these media publicly agreed to call themselves the melodious “oligarchs” instead of “mafiosi” and paid their tame lackeys and Natasha to promote free speech exclusively for themselves.
And so it happened that a guy, thanks to his father-in-law the president, stole the Kryvyi Rih plant from the state, and now looks like a philanthropist and visionary in the public eye. Just yesterday I read in UP that the author of the scam is financing some writing of Ukraine’s history because he is a “businessman and philanthropist.” That’s exactly how it was written. He stole the state plant with equally crafty fellows and boasted about it in the London court, but throw a wad of money to the media prostitutes, and you are already a business genius, philanthropist, not a swindler.
And none of the media boycotts them. On the contrary, they even broadcast Kolomoisky’s political musings from the courts, as if this nobody is some sage.
All of this is what America was defending in our country. The preservation of control by criminal organizations over public consciousness.
The fact that we lack journalistic solidarity, which US journalists have just demonstrated, indicates that we are deprived of free speech. Our fourth estate is corrupt. Like the other three branches of power.
So they all need lustration.
