Moscow experienced its “most massive attack” on Sunday night, according to the city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin. He stated that the attack damaged a facility at the Moscow oil refinery. Three people were killed in the Moscow region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that during the attack on Moscow on September 20, Ukrainian defense forces used long-range drones and various missiles, including “Flamingo” and Pelican.
The use of Pelican has been reported for the first time. It is known that this is the name of the Ukrainian ballistic missile FP-7 by Fire Point Company. However, its declared range is 200-300 km – Moscow is located further. There have been no clarifications from the Ukrainian authorities on this yet.
“In the Moscow region last night, our long-range responses were very effective. There is damage to one of the key enterprises of Russia’s oil industry and a logistics facility of the aggressor. This is billions of dollars that support the military machine,” Zelensky stated.
“In particular, FP-1, RZ-100, MICH-2000, ‘Palianytsia’, Vendetta, ‘Liutyi’, ‘Bars’, ‘Flamingo’, ‘Sichen’, Pelican” were used,” the president wrote on his Telegram channel.
He said that the Ukrainian army also struck an enterprise in the Voronezh region.
In the Kyiv region, four people died in a day – three children and a woman, reported the head of the regional military administration Tymur Tkachenko.
The mayor of Moscow stated that “more than 1600 drones were repelled on all fronts since yesterday. Of them, 450 – on approach to Moscow.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that overnight, air defense systems shot down 1,110 drones over the regions of Russia. Russian news agency TASS calculated that this is the most massive attack since the beginning of the year.
Consequences of the attack
According to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, several drones “reached the territory of the Moscow oil refinery,” and one hit a residential building – on Orikhov Boulevard.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the Moscow oil refinery. According to the military, three main areas of the plant were damaged – the crude oil distillation unit, the complex oil processing unit, and the isomerization unit that increases the octane number of the processing product.
They report that the oil refinery processes over 12 million tons of oil per year, producing gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, some of which is supplied to the Russian armed forces.
According to Ukrainian military data, the plant also provides more than a third of the fuel for Moscow and surrounding regions.
“The destruction of such objects directly undermines the enemy’s ability to continue the aggressive war and supply its military groups. All our deep and middle strikes are transferring the war to Russia’s territory,” stated Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara.
Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that 249 drones attacked the Moscow outskirts overnight.
He mentioned that the “most serious consequences” of the attack were in the Ramensky district.
On North Highway, due to drone crashes, the roof of a 21-story residential building caught fire, and 20 vehicles were damaged.
In Sofyino, a drone struck a three-story apartment building.
A 44-year-old woman died, and five other people were injured, including two children, wrote Andrey Vorobyov. Later, he reported that one of the injured died in the hospital.
As a result of the drone strike on a residential building in the village of Sofyino, 15-year-old Ezoza Yusupova was injured. She was taken to the L. M. Roshal Children’s Clinical Center.
“Ezoza and her 19-year-old brother Bekhriz were left without parents. Their mother died during the attack, and their father passed away in the hospital”, said Vorobyov.
Also in Sofyino, a warehouse complex caught fire after the attack.
Another person died in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo district, the governor added. It was an elderly man who was in a private house during the drone attack.
In the Leninsky district, more than 10 residential buildings were damaged. The Russian agency “Interfax” specifies that in the Leninsky district, 14 apartment buildings were affected, and five people were taken to hospitals.
The head of the Moscow region also reported a severe fire in Kotelniki, where a drone hit an apartment building in the Novye Kotelniki neighborhood – the fire engulfed apartments on three floors.
The consequences of the attack, according to Vorobyov, are also present in other municipalities.
In total, according to Vorobyov, 20 people were affected in the Moscow region.
The Russian national airline “Aeroflot” adjusted its schedule due to the drone attack on Moscow.
“In connection with the temporary restrictions on flights and arrivals at the Moscow aviation hub airports on September 20, “Aeroflot” is forced to adjust the schedule by rescheduling departures and canceling some flights”, the airline said in a statement.
They added that some flights arriving at Sheremetyevo were redirected to alternate airports. They will continue to their destination after the restrictions are lifted, “Aeroflot” added.
Additionally, the airline asked passengers to check their flight status on the online board before heading to the airport, and not to come to the airport if the flight is canceled.
The company Fire Point announced that FP-1 drones of the defense forces destroyed a warehouse complex in the Moscow region. According to preliminary data, the warehouses of the “Modern Warehouse Technologies” company are on fire.
The Telegram channel Supernova writes that drones attacked warehouses in Sofyino in the Ramenskoye district and publishes footage of the fire.
On the “Sofyino” territory, as reported, there are distribution and warehouse facilities of large companies, including Lamoda, “Yandex”, Wildberries, and Bosch/Siemens.

Attacks on Ukraine
Meanwhile, Russia continues to attack Ukrainian regions with strike drones.
According to the head of the Kyiv military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, the Kyiv region has endured over a day of Russian attacks.
Four people have died – three children and a woman. One child died from injuries in the hospital following a Russian attack in the Vyshhorod district. A mother and two small children, a girl and a boy, died on Saturday in the Fastiv district.
In five districts of the region, 31 objects were damaged. Most were in the Fastiv district. Here, 24 objects were damaged, including residential buildings, production and utility premises, the area of an agricultural enterprise, and 17 vehicles.
Private houses and warehouse premises also suffered damages in the Vyshhorod, Obukhiv, Brovary, and Bucha districts of the region.
In the morning, Russia continued to attack the area with strike drones.
After a short pause, the drone raid on Kyiv and the region resumed during the day. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported on the work of anti-air defense in the capital after 13:00.
Later, he reported that a drone fell on a non-residential building in the Holosiivskyi district.
