Glory to Ukraine!

Glory to the defenders of Ukraine and all modern civilization!

Today’s topics:

  • The largest protest in US history
  • Fox Channel poll: a significant majority of Americans disapprove of all aspects of Trump’s policies
  • Economy and war: the stock market lost 8% in a month, oil prices rose by 87%, and the war with Iran continues
  • Speaker Johnson and Trump: not a step without the boss’s approval

▶ On Saturday, across the country, in all 50 states, in more than 3300 cities and towns, the largest protest in US history took place, organized by the “No Kings” movement.

More than 8 million people participated in protests against Trump and his policies, in marches and rallies across the country.

A similar protest in June 2025 saw 5 million participants, in October 2025 – 7 million.

As time goes on, more and more people measure their attitude toward Trump and his policies on a scale from dissatisfaction to indignation.

I was at the demonstration in New York City. Despite the cold (maximum +5 Celsius) and windy weather, about 300,000 people participated.

Here are some photo impressions.

The demonstrators marched from Central Park along 59th Street and 7th Avenue to Times Square (more than 2 km).

The most prominent slogans: “Trump must go!”, “Impeachment, arrest, prison!”, “Melt ICE” (a play on words – ice – frozen water and the acronym ICE – immigration police), “F*ck Trump”, “No war with Iran”, “No $200 billion for war with Iran”, “Money for health insurance, not for war”, “Down with the crook, rapist, and war criminal!” “Save our republic!” “When good people are silent, democracy dies”, “America was made great by immigrants!”, “Equal rights and respect for all people!”, “No führers in America”, “No tyranny”, “No tyrants”, “We, the people, say ‘no’ to the dictator!”, “America hates Trump”, “No to fascism!”, “No to fascist dictatorship!”

There were many collages depicting Trump as Putin’s puppet.

The demonstrators carried effigies of Trump, including ones in prison-orange clothing.

Participants chanted many slogans typical for such demonstrations: “Donald Trump must go!” “When we are united, we are unbeatable!”

Demonstrations were held under similar slogans across the country – from all major cities to very small towns. Protests also took place in “red,” Republican areas, and according to organizers, about half of the protests occurred in such areas.

There was also a demonstration several hundred meters from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, where he could, in principle, hear the protesters chanting slogans against him.

In Washington, demonstrators went to the home of Trump’s internal policy cardinal, Stephen Miller, demanding his resignation and departure from the administration (Miller formally holds the position of deputy chief of staff of the White House).

The demonstrations will not force Trump to resign.

They will not make Vice President Vance and Trump’s cabinet members use the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to declare the 47th president unable to fulfill his duties. To take such a step requires courage, determination, love for their country, and most importantly, a sense of self-worth. This sense is utterly absent in both the Vice President and all cabinet members. Furthermore, they lack all other aforementioned qualities. They will continue to wear shoes either a size bigger or smaller, gifted by Trump, fearing to offend him. They will continue to praise him on television shows, into which the 47th president has turned cabinet meetings.

But Saturday’s protests clearly demonstrate the sentiments in the country, where elections will take place in seven months and five days for Congress.

▶ The mood of the people, voters, is also shown through polls. Various sociological services conduct them. Let’s turn to one that cannot be suspected of bias or sympathy towards liberals – the sociological service of Fox channel, the main pro-Trump propaganda outlet.

Here are the results of the latest poll, published on Thursday, March 26:

Yes No
Do you support Trump’s activities as president? 41% 59%

(this is Trump’s lowest rating in Fox channel polls during his time in office; other polling services report Trump’s latest ratings from 35% to 38%).

Yes No
Do you support Trump’s immigration policy? 44% 56%
Do you support Trump’s foreign policy? 38% 62%
Do you support Trump’s policy towards Iran? 36% 64%
Do you support Trump’s tax policy? 36% 64%
Do you support Trump’s healthcare policy? 36% 64%
Do you support Trump’s economic policy? 34% 66%
Do you support Trump’s policy towards inflation? 28% 71%

According to the Fox channel’s polling service, 84% of registered Republicans continue to support Trump (compared to 92% a year ago).

Among them, 59% of Republicans who do not consider themselves MAGA supporters continue to support him (compared to 70% a year ago).

Among Republicans who consider themselves MAGA supporters, the level of support for Trump is 95% (compared to 98% a year ago).

According to the same poll, 75% of Americans believe the economy is in poor condition (compared to 71% a month ago).

46% of Americans believe that their own and/or their family’s financial situation is worsening (compared to 44% in December 2025).

Finally, almost two-thirds of Americans – 64% are not satisfied with the direction in which the country is currently moving.

In the US, such presidential and policy ratings are said to be “underwater.” One might even say more strongly—that they are in a swampy quagmire.

Trump and the Republicans are dragging the whole country, and worse—the whole world, into this, as the results of their policies affect the entire world.

▶ For perhaps the first time, Trump failed to boost stock market prices and lower oil prices with a tweet published on Thursday. The markets initially reacted to his tweet about “postponing strikes on the Iranian energy sector for 10 days” with a slight increase in stock futures and a slight decrease in oil.

However, by Friday, when the markets opened, everything quickly went back to previous trends – the American stock market continued to decline, and oil prices continued to rise.

In the month following the start of the war with Iran, the three main American stock indices (Dow Jones – a weighted index of the 30 largest companies, S&P 500 – a weighted index of the 500 largest companies, and Nasdaq – a weighted index of the largest high-tech companies) fell by 8%. Accordingly, American pension savings also fell by the same amount.

Shareholders of the 500 companies included in the S&P 500 lost about $4 trillion this month.

The price of a barrel of Brent oil reached $112.6 on Friday. Thus, during the month of the ongoing war with Iran, oil prices have increased by 87%.

The entry of Yemeni Houthis into the war on Iran’s side on Saturday, and the likely realization of their threat to block navigation in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait – connecting the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea – will deal another crippling blow to the global economy. As a result, ships will have to circumnavigate Africa to transport goods by sea between Europe and Asia, a route that is many times longer and more expensive compared to the path from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal.

The war continues. Trump is clearly seeking a way to exit it so he can declare victory, but he hasn’t found one because the regime in Iran remains in power, the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked by Iran, and Iran continues to strike all surrounding countries, including American targets in these countries. The latest such strike was on a Saudi Arabian airbase, where more than ten American servicemen were injured, including two seriously, and several American military aircraft were damaged (the exact number is not reported).

At the same time, the US is deploying Marines to the Middle East. But even if their number reaches 10,000, as the Wall Street Journal reported, it is not very clear what their role will be. According to retired General Wesley Clark, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, the US would need to deploy at least 100,000 troops and additional naval forces to the region just to unblock and maintain the Strait of Hormuz.

▶ On Friday, House Speaker Johnson and the Republicans in the House of Representatives once again demonstrated their complete spinelessness, showing that they fear Trump more than their voters and a practically inevitable serious defeat in the elections in November.

It’s about the fact that early Friday morning, the Senate quite unexpectedly unanimously (!) passed a bill that Democrats had been proposing for over a month — a partial budget for the Department of Homeland Security until the end of the fiscal year, without additional funding for immigration and border patrol, in order to unblock the work of other services of the department – transportation security, cybersecurity, emergency management agency, coast guard, secret service. Negotiations on immigration police and border patrol funding would continue (Democrats condition this on aligning their operational regulations with those of the police).

Republicans in the Senate had not wanted to vote for such a bill for more than a month. But they suddenly agreed. For various reasons. Pressure from voters. And they wanted to go on the two-week traditional Easter recess without being accused of unwillingness to solve problems.

The bill was sent to the House of Representatives. Had Speaker Johnson put it to a vote, it would have been passed unanimously or nearly so. But Speaker Johnson does nothing without getting permission from the president and his approval. Naturally, he awaited Trump’s directive. The directive was to not accept the bill under any circumstances, to accuse the “radical left Democrats” of wanting to open the borders, which the House Republicans would never allow. Johnson then put another bill to a vote — a temporary budget for the entire Department of Homeland Security for two weeks. He did so, fully understanding that this bill would not pass in the Senate. The Senate Democratic leader, Schumer, immediately called Johnson’s bill stillborn.

The House of Representatives voted (218-213) for Johnson’s propaganda stillborn bill.

And Trump issued an order directing Homeland Security Secretary Mullin to pay TSA employees’ salaries from the department’s reserve fund ($10 billion) to get them back to work. But a one-off payment cannot solve the problem. More than 500 TSA employees nationwide have already quit. Replacing them is not easy, as new employees need to be trained. And who would want to work at a job where it is uncertain if they will get paid? After all, in two weeks, the next paycheck will be due… Accordingly, all other Homeland Security services, except for immigration police and border patrol, remain without a budget. This is what the president wanted. By following his will unquestioningly, Speaker Johnson and the Republicans in the House of Representatives fulfilled this very will.

They are afraid of Trump. But they will have to face the voters in November. We have already discussed the sentiments of the majority of voters above.

There are 1,029 days left until the end of the story called “Fear: Trump in the White House” © (title of Bob Woodward’s book published in 2018).

Thank you to everyone who read. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Take care of each other, help one another. Good health to everyone.

Ultimately, what happens in the world depends on us. Whether we fight evil, do Good, remain merely observers, passively wait, and believe that someone somewhere else will resolve things for us, or we fight evil and do everything possible for Good to prevail.

We must not allow evil to triumph. The victory of evil would mean the end of the world we live in. We cannot allow this. Especially now.

Ukrainian Friends, I embrace and love you all. Take care of each other, I ask you very much.

Ukraine is and will always be.

And evil will be defeated and punished. And this is certain.
