A recent attempt to carry out sabotage using drone bombs at Leipzig/Halle International Airport revealed the alarming scale of the brazen hybrid war that the Russian leadership is waging in the heart of Europe.

On the night of August 4-5, a dangerous drone with professional explosives was discovered on the runway of a transport hub playing a key role in the logistical support of Ukrainian forces, right next to the Ukrainian heavy cargo plane An-124 “Ruslan.” Due to a technical malfunction of the explosive device, detonation did not occur, although during the same incident a second drone collided in the air with a DHL cargo plane that was making a go-around, and later debris of a third vehicle was found in the vicinity.

From the outset, the German competent authorities officially laid responsibility for this daring sabotage on Russia; later, the investigation revealed DNA traces on the drone components that led to perpetrators among Russian and Belarusian citizens, which definitively confirmed the state nature of the planned attack.

In response to such an unprecedented challenge, the German government announced strict diplomatic measures, including the closure of the remaining Russian consular institutions and the cessation of activities of organizations used to cover covert operational activities.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, expressed deep solidarity with Berlin and emphasized that such malicious acts are aimed at destroying pan-European security and therefore require an immediate and consolidated response.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also issued a strong condemnation of the incident, stating his unwavering support for the allies of the North Atlantic Alliance and noting that the intelligence-provided evidence directly points to the systematic nature of Russian aggression against Western countries.

Such decisive steps by Western countries provoked a hysterical reaction in Moscow, where Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev openly burst out with warlike threats against Germany. The Russian official began threatening German citizens and the government with the destruction of military equipment production facilities while simultaneously using offensive expressions against leaders of sovereign European states.

Such aggressive rhetoric clearly demonstrates the deep degradation of the diplomatic culture of the Kremlin’s nomenklatura, which has simply completely descended into outright blackmail and intimidation of peaceful residents.

While Kremlin functionaries openly contemplate bombing German factories and threaten the stability of the entire continent, the international community must realize the full depth of the impending danger.

Such impunity only encourages the emboldened aggressor to new dangerous ventures if the free democratic world cannot demonstrate monolithic resilience in the face of Putin’s recklessness. Every new day of indulgence toward Kremlin terrorist methods brings Europe closer to a catastrophe that can be prevented only through uncompromising and comprehensive pressure on the aggressor and the strengthening of its own defenses.
