The meeting between Zelensky and Trump in New York is important because it maintains a good dynamic of dialogue at the highest level. At the same time, we have not yet seen any specific agreements on a ceasefire. This and the forthcoming diplomatic steps were discussed on Radio NV.
My key conclusions:
• An energy truce is possible only on the basis of reciprocity. Ukraine is ready to stop strikes if Russia stops attacking our energy and civilian infrastructure. Unilateral restrictions for Ukraine will not constitute a truce.
• Partial cessation of strikes is not yet peace. It may only be the first step ahead of winter, but it does not replace a full ceasefire.
• The key issue now is Moscow’s response. The results of US contacts with Russia will be indicative, and most importantly, the actions of the Russian side following the Ukrainian proposal.
• US sanctions could serve as a strong lever of pressure on the aggressor. But their real strength depends on whether President Trump dares to apply this tool against Russia.
• It is critically important to involve China in the diplomatic process. Alongside the dialogue between Washington and Beijing, direct contacts between Kyiv and Beijing should also become more active.
Diplomacy is measured not by statements but by actions. The coming days will show whether words remain just words or whether they truly lead to steps toward a ceasefire, real diplomacy, and negotiations.
