The more complex the international situation, the more professional and effective our diplomacy must be. Its result is the obtained weapons, the support of partners, and the saved lives of Ukrainians.
In an open conversation with Dmytro Tuzov, we discussed:
▪️ The crisis in relations with the USA. We must fight to restore strategic partnership. Deepening the crisis plays into the Kremlin’s hands.
▪️ Congressional elections. We should not live under the illusion that everything will resolve itself after the vote. Ukraine must maintain bipartisan support and avoid entanglement in internal American struggles.
▪️ Our diplomacy’s work in Washington. Where is the Ambassador, where is the parliamentary diplomacy, where is the work of the Strategic Partnership Commission? The tools are there, but they need to be deployed.
▪️ Ceasefire. Why has this demand moved to the back burner? Russia must first stop shooting and killing Ukrainians. This is where the path to peace should begin.
▪️ Possible agreements of global players. Attempts to divide spheres of influence without considering the interests of the affected states are doomed to fail. Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine!
▪️ Crimea. Partners should be reminded of their official obligations, particularly the U.S. Crimea Declaration on non-recognition of the Russian annexation.
▪️ Sanctions and the West’s determination. In my opinion, the West mistakenly refused to deliver a military-political defeat to Putin. This is why assistance remains measured and sanction pressure is insufficient.
▪️ Europe’s defense capabilities. Our Armed Forces are buying time for Europeans. I urge partners to use it as effectively as possible: produce weapons faster and invest in the Ukrainian defense industry.
▪️ Concessions at Ukraine’s expense. History teaches that attempts to satisfy the aggressor’s appetites at the expense of its victim lead to a new, larger war. Partners should remember this lesson.
We must be restrained, persistent, and consistent in defending Ukrainian interests.
