While we all await the next report from the SBS mid-strike center, I’d like to discuss the prospects of this direction for the near future.
This is important because summer is coming soon. And summer is the time of wings. Because weather conditions allow flying far, seeing far, and in every brigade transitioning from winter mode (Mavic+FPV) to summer, unexpectedly, the wingman becomes a very necessary unit. We even used to joke that there’s a parabola of the wingman’s necessity, in winter — what the heck are you doing, what are you up to, why aren’t you flying, you all need to be sent off with Mavics, in summer — blah blah blah, we need more targets (and they’re all beyond Mavic’s range), fly more, why do we have so few crews on duty…
I’ve seen this groundhog’s parabola for several years, and this year will be no different. It will be more challenging due to the emergence of anti-aircraft units, requiring better flight planning and the presence of quality wingmen when organizing work (otherwise the unit will just feed the enemy’s anti-aircraft crews with wings, improving the statistics of the “Rubicon” units), but the function itself will not change. And the time of the wingmen begins literally in a few days.
But this summer will be supplemented with some functions for wingmen that will literally astonish the enemy.
If you follow the reports of the SBS mid-strike coordination headquarters, you might have seen three trends:
1) Strikes are becoming more frequent every week.
2) Besides the top very expensive targets like radars and SAMs, tactical targets, you know, all sorts of trucks, MLRS, and others are starting to appear.
3) The number of units participating in this is constantly increasing.
So yes, you understand the general trend correctly. Mid-strike is becoming a basic function for SBS brigades (and not only), and this spread is coordinated exactly for this summer. I don’t know how many brigades will start working with mid-strikes, but there will be the 59th and “Inquisition” crews 😉. And not only, because I know a few more brigades where pilots are being trained for mid-strikes.
Therefore, the enemy is in for a very explosive summer.
