French cities have plunged into chaos due to massive autumn protests, as a wave of social discontent caused by the sharp rise in living costs and high inflation has spread across almost all regions of the country.
Street demonstrations, organized by student unions, farmers’ associations, and radical activists, quickly escalated into fierce clashes with law enforcement. In such radical forms, citizens express their extreme outrage at government reforms.
The large-scale demonstrations resulted in the destruction of municipal infrastructure, arson of government buildings, and mass arrests, with hundreds of citizens being detained across the republic. French law enforcement agencies report numerous injuries among police officers, who have to use tear gas and water cannons to restrain aggressive groups.
At the same time, French intelligence services monitoring the information space openly record traces of digital manipulation coordinated by pro-Kremlin disinformation networks. Through thousands of bots and fake news sites imitating major European publications, Moscow actively fuels panic, disseminates radical fakes, and artificially amplifies protest activity within French society.
The deep destabilization crisis plays directly into the hands of the Kremlin, which is interested in weakening the positions of the current government and promoting far-right political parties that show loyalty to Russian foreign policy. The rise of right-wing forces to key government posts could undermine the united European front supporting Ukraine and block important sanction initiatives.
In addition to Russian information structures, there is activity from ultra-left international platforms, as well as hybrid influence from individual Asian and Middle Eastern players using cyberattacks to destabilize European stability. MAGA supporters and former President Trump in the USA use the French crisis as an argument to criticize the Democrat party, positioning them as allies of leftist radicals, ahead of the midterm elections in November 2026.
The comprehensive external impact turns the internal French crisis into a dangerous tool of geopolitical pressure on the entire EU security architecture and partner countries.
