Petro Poroshenko discussed conversations with EU Commissioner Marta Kos

In a broadcast on the ‘Pryamiy’ TV channel, Petro Poroshenko spoke about discussions held during a meeting in the Verkhovna Rada with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who visited Ukraine. He also addressed whether there are risks of Ukraine and Moldova being split on their path to EU membership and what needs to be done to prevent this.

“Is there a risk that we will be divided from Moldova? Obviously, yes. Why? Because Ukraine is not liked and Moldova is? No. It’s because Moldova has already completed half of the plan, whereas Ukraine hasn’t even started. It’s not just about the parliament needing to vote on legislative changes—the parliament is in deep crisis and isn’t voting. The position of ‘European Solidarity’ is very simple: involve us in the drafting of bill proposals because we, unlike others, read the text besides just the title. And we see what’s harmful to Ukraine hidden there. Include us, and you will have our votes, plus a significant improvement in the quality of the drafts,” emphasizes Poroshenko.

“We are currently at an incredibly important stage of our integration. A week ago, the European Commission made a decision on 90 billion euros in aid, which is secured by Russian frozen assets. And if Russia does not return the assets to Ukraine, and reparation money is not used, the European Union will pay itself. And if they return, the repayment of these 90 billion loans will be carried out at the expense of Russian money,” said Poroshenko.

“Another important position – if Ukraine does not implement reforms, if there is a rollback of reforms, then the European Union will recover this money from Ukraine. This is a very powerful motivation. Today there was a very effective meeting with the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Ms. Marta Kos, a great friend of Ukraine. And she said that today or tomorrow, 2.8 billion from this tranche will be received by Ukraine. We are discussing the position regarding the bills that need to be adopted first. Including, as she said, a bill on the complete overhaul and reform of the political instrument of power – the State Bureau of Investigation,” Poroshenko said.

“The second position is the overhaul of Financial Monitoring. A person, a direct participant in Mindich Gate, who, due to fear of NABU, does not appear in Ukraine, does not show up for work, and is not being dismissed. A huge position on the rule of law, the independence of judges,” Poroshenko noted.

“She is a very talented lawyer; we speak the same language,” shared the leader of the ‘European Solidarity’ his impressions of the meeting with Kos.

“On June 15, we will finally have the opening of the first cluster, called ‘Foundations’. Rule of Law. This is where the entry into the European Union begins and where it ends. We have tasks for every day, not just every week. So that by July, as a result of the effective work of the Ukrainian government, the president, and the parliament, we will open seven more clusters. Because Moldova will definitely open theirs. And what about us? If we don’t do this, and Moldova does, then the citizens of Moldova should not suffer due to the inaction and irresponsibility of the Ukrainian authorities,” Porošenko noted.

“And then Moldova will go with the Balkan countries, and Ukraine will be thrown off this train. And here’s another point we discussed with Ms. Kos, which is inclusivity. Because this is not just Zelensky’s issue. It’s a matter for Porošenko, but not only. It’s a matter for the president, the government, the parliament, public organizations, opinion leaders, local government entities, and journalists. Everyone must feel this task. And it is the unification of the country. Without this, we will not defeat Russia, and without this, we will not enter the European Union,” the opposition leader is convinced.

Porošenko predicted when Ukraine might become a NATO member

By 2030, Ukraine may receive a ‘green light’ for NATO membership – such a forecast was made by Petro Porošenko on the air of the ‘Pryamyi’ TV channel. He noted that despite the current skepticism of many, our country’s membership in NATO cannot be removed from the agenda.

“My arguments about NATO. Is NATO capable of stopping Russia at present? No. And how can NATO stop Russia? Only one condition. Ukraine must be a member of NATO. Who supported my position today? The Prime Minister of Denmark. A very good friend of Ukraine, who has developed a very effective position in support of our Armed Forces. Because Denmark’s budget buys weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers and supplies them to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. What did she say today? She says: I want to emphasize that we must acknowledge a mistake. Because if Ukraine had been accepted into NATO earlier, this war would not be happening now. And Europe must take off its hat to the Ukrainian Armed Forces; Ukraine undoubtedly has the strongest army on the continent,” the fifth President noted.

“I am convinced that in democratic countries, leaders who have an emotional, subjective attitude towards Ukraine’s future NATO membership will change. And Ukraine is eternal. And so, write down my forecast, that by 2030 the issue of Ukraine joining NATO and getting the ‘green light’ will be resolved,” said Porošenko.

Poroshenko explained why there is currently a window of opportunity to implement the peace plan

Petro Poroshenko, on air on the “Pryamyi” channel, explained why a window of opportunity has opened to end the war. The peace plan, which the fifth President proposed to EU member states’ ambassadors, involves taking advantage of Putin’s weakness to force him to cease fire.

“We really have a very narrow, but existing window of opportunity to end the war. I presented this peace plan to all the EU member states’ ambassadors, who are also NATO members. I also presented it during a meeting with President Zelensky. Despite the very difficult nature of the conversation, for the first time, I saw a radical change that we can get closer to a common vision to end the war,” Poroshenko says.

“First, Putin is now weak. Putin has suffered a series of very sensitive defeats worldwide. His allies or Russia’s sphere of vital interest is shrinking today like a shrinking hide. Last night, Putin lost Armenia. This is a very significant event. 50% of Armenians voted for Europe. For Putin, this is a crushing defeat. Six months ago, there was a crushing defeat for Putin in Moldova. This is the second defeat. The third defeat is Hungary. The defeat of Maduro in Venezuela. Then the critical situation in pro-Russian Cuba. Then the positions of Russian private military companies in Mali. Today, the world understands that Putin is not capable of guaranteeing anything. Neither money, nor weapons, nor aid, nor security. This is a sign of the weakness of an aging dictator,” Poroshenko believes.

“Further is the development on the front in Ukraine. Despite the incredible burdens placed on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian advances have slowed to almost zero. Syrskyi announced today that in a month, we liberated 100 kilometers more territory than the Russians captured. Another figure announced by Madyar was that 30,000 ‘worms,’ as Madyar calls Russians, were killed or seriously wounded only in May. And two-thirds of this number are dead. Putin cannot ignore this today,” the fifth President says.

“Despite high oil prices and the reopening of the ‘Druzhba’ pipeline through Ukraine’s territory, exporting not 300, but almost 200 thousand barrels of oil per day, the volume of oil Russia exports has fallen to a record low level. And this means a total deficit of the Russian budget. It is increasingly difficult for them to finance the war. The sale of gold that Russia carries out in markets in China, Singapore, and Hong Kong no longer covers expenses,” Poroshenko states.

He also noted that Ukrainian drones, which are destroying Russia’s rear capabilities, have become a very convincing argument for a ceasefire.

“And what will happen if there is no ceasefire? We have Plan B. Plan B means more weapons, including long-range ones, more air defense for Ukraine. More drones. A higher price. More sanctions,” Poroshenko enumerated.

“The only thing we currently lack for the real implementation of this Plan B is effective coordination of the European and American components of our partners. But it’s realistic. Because Trump is now on the brink of a parliamentary campaign where part of the House of Representatives and part of the Senate will be renewed. What is the main problem concerning Americans right now? Inflation. Gasoline prices, utility prices. So, Trump has the task of stopping at any cost the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz before the elections, by lowering the oil price, which will hit Russia. And the second is to ensure a ceasefire,” Poroshenko believes.

“Aid to Ukraine is not charity. Aid to Ukraine is an investment in American, global, and European security. We do not have the right to lose these negotiations. We must use every opportunity to stop the fire,” Poroshenko concluded.
