“Withdrawal of troops from Donbass is the path to peace,” officially declares the aggressor. And this narrative is being discussed in various ways, including the diplomatic track. Even in Ukraine, social surveys are conducted with such a question! And there’s not even clarity about what is being discussed, about Donbass, about the Donetsk region, about part of the Donetsk region…
The main thing is that everyone seems to have forgotten that the word occupation is not about peace. It’s from the dictionary of war! Only de-occupation will bring lasting peace.
And there are no “complex issues”! There is a complex situation TODAY in the Russian-Ukrainian war and a desire of other countries to avoid Russian aggression. History has already shown these are futile dreams.
The withdrawal of the aggressor’s troops from the territory of an independent and sovereign country is indeed the path to peace! Yes, now, this seems impossible. Just as yesterday, Russian occupation of Ukrainian territory was considered impossible. Just as today, some in Europe consider a Russian attack on EU or NATO countries impossible.
But sooner or later, the enemy will have to stop – the war budget is not unlimited. Of course, Ukraine’s resources are not unlimited either. It needs solidarity and partnership, scaling up assistance. It is much cheaper to do this now than to invest trillions later.
The only true path to peace is not encouraging the aggressor for further territorial claims but de-occupying Ukraine!
