Impunity breeds new crimes

Impunity breeds new crimes
Petro Poroshenko

Within just one hour this night, the terrorist country launched about 30 missiles at Kyiv region. In Kharkiv, 5 rescuers from the State Emergency Service died rushing to help people. Russia waited until emergency workers arrived at the strike locations and then carried out a second attack. Dnipro was attacked. Sumy region. In total, Russia sent 70 missiles and 611 UAVs.

The Lavra is in flames. Russian barbarians are trying to burn a symbol of Christianity. Hits on residential buildings. At Dovzhenko film studio. At the Mystetskyi Arsenal. At post offices. At business centers. At educational institutions. There are wounded and killed.

This is what Russia calls “military targets.” They aim at the peaceful life of Ukrainians. They aim at culture. They aim at our faith. The country built its own culture on killings, torture, and destructions. They take pleasure in the grief of others.

There is no need to look for any signs of peace in Putin’s eyes. He must be forced to peace. Therefore, it is time to do precisely what can stop the enemy.

That is why Ukraine needs new air defense systems, more missiles for them, more investment in its own defense production, and more long-range capabilities to deter the aggressor.

And that is why the world must finally understand: sanctions should not be symbolic. They must deprive Russia of resources to continue the war.

Thank you to everyone who held the sky and saved lives tonight — the air defense forces, State Emergency Service rescuers, police, and medics.

Eternal memory to all the fallen. Sincere condolences to the families…

Amid the war crimes and attacks on Ukraine’s and the World’s cultural and religious heritage, an important point must not go unnoticed.

Whether from a sense of impunity or the typical Moscow’s “perhaps it will pass,” today they themselves documented other war crimes committed on Ukraine’s territory on June 15.

The official statement from the RF Ministry of Defense (as we see, it’s proper to call them the Ministry of Murder and Terror) confirms targeted strikes at objects which are also classified under International Humanitarian Law, including the Geneva Conventions and their protocols, as war crimes.

Firstly, this is the strike on the Dovzhenko Film Studio.

Secondly, this is the strike on a civilian company and civilian object — at Kyiv’s innovative terminal “Nova Poshta.”

Thirdly, these are strikes on buildings where TTCs are located in densely populated areas. Such strikes are carried out to intimidate the population and disrupt mobilization.

And the most treacherous war crime is the killing of SES employees in Kharkiv with a repeated strike… From the point of view of international humanitarian law, the tactic of a repeated strike (the so-called “double-tap strike”) on rescuers and medics at the site of the first hit is an unequivocal and serious war crime.

Four died: SES rescuers and a civil protection specialist from the city council. The SES of Ukraine released the names of the unarmed fallen heroes:

Dmytro Boyko – unit commander, chief master sergeant of the civil protection service;
Danylo Tishchenko – firefighter-rescuer, sergeant of the civil protection service;
Serhiy Makovetskyi – firefighter-rescuer, sergeant of the civil protection service;
Vadym Zinchenko – driver, master sergeant of the civil protection service;
Oleksiy Dorozhkin – employee of the Kharkiv City Council Emergency Department.

Another nine rescuers were injured to varying degrees.

Once again: the official structure of the aggressor itself recorded the facts and intention to commit war crimes!

Today’s impunity breeds more and more crimes…

While the Ukrainian defense forces target objects clearly classified under IHL and try not to pose undue risk to civilians, the Kremlin criminals resort to direct intimidation and terror.

This is already hysteria. But this period cannot be prolonged. Concentrated efforts from all partners are needed to pressure the aggressor and compel it to peace!

Intentionally. The key word is intentionally. Malicious intent is the most important part of the crime.

Russians still try to pretend they are conducting a war of conquest within some civilized framework. And many good people in the West find it convenient to pretend that this is indeed the case.

1. In Kharkiv, with a repeated strike, Russia killed 4 rescuers and a DSNS employee. 6 people were injured. The people were doing their job—putting out a fire. The Russians intentionally killed them.

2. In Kyiv, Russia struck the Assumption Cathedral in the Lavra. Judging by the available data on the trajectory of the strike, the second drone was supposed to kill the firefighters extinguishing the cathedral. But it slightly missed and hit the roof of the “Mystetskyi Arsenal.” Thus, both the attack on the part of the UNESCO World Heritage site and the attempt to kill firefighters were intentional.

It is especially worth emphasizing that there are no military targets around the Lavra and Arsenal at all. Just none. This was an intentional attack on a civilian target with the highest protection status imaginable.

In Kyiv overnight—5 dead.

3. A day earlier in Kharkiv, Russia hit the Kharkiv Art Museum, and rescuers interrupted their work and took shelter in the metro crossing (fortunately, it was 50 m away) due to the threat of repeated attacks. This is, without a doubt, an intentional incident.

4. Russia attacked and burned the A. Dovzhenko film studio in Kyiv several times. Intentionally.

5. Russians attacked the largest “Nova Poshta” terminal in Kyiv.

There were also attacks on residential buildings in Kyiv, Sumy, a strike on the Dnipro. The list can go on endlessly. Just this morning, Russians killed a civilian in Kherson and wounded two others.

The Russians – political leadership, military, support staff – are criminals, terrorists. Their goal is to sow fear.

Kind people in the West, trying to pretend otherwise, are hypocrites.

Sometimes, you have to talk to terrorists. But there is an obvious line when trying to negotiate at the expense of the victim of aggression begins.

What is evident.

Putin maintained a certain line – he did not attack until Trump’s anniversary. He allowed the celebration to happen, gather congratulations, and start the show with fights in the octagon. And then he staged his “show,” which took a portion of prime time in the USA, but did not spoil the mood.

To Putin, despite all the duplicity, it is important not to break contact with Washington. But striking Ukraine right after talking to the US president creates the impression that the US is either not against it or cannot do anything about it.

We can only show the sensible part of the American side how this situation places America. After all, the whole world is watching. Appearing weak against both Iran and Russia is too much, even with all the course corrections in global affairs.

The cherished dream of the Kremlin – to humiliate America – has not disappeared. And the strong are usually humiliated by demonstrating their inability to protect their people, by the blood of the innocent.

Unwillingness to deal with the Moscow terrorists will only lead to the accumulation of risks, which will explode at the most inopportune moment and lead not to the loss of money, but to American blood in one form or another.
