American diplomat Paul Houston today assumed his duties as the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in Ukraine.

The diplomat began his mission in Kyiv by participating in the National Prayer Breakfast.

“It is an honor for me to start my work in Kyiv by participating in the National Prayer Breakfast of Ukraine, dedicated to freedom of religion and timed to the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. I am pleased with the opportunity to work to strengthen freedom and peace as the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv on a long-term basis,” said Houston, as quoted by the U.S. Embassy.

In June, the temporary Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in Ukraine, Julie Davis completed her work in Ukraine. She held this position since May 2025.

Paul Houston is a career diplomat of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counselor.

Prior to his current appointment, Paul Houston served as the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States at the U.S. Embassy in Niamey (Niger). Before that, he worked as a senior official in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
