▶ On Thursday at 9:00 PM Eastern US time, the 47th president delivered an address to the nation from the White House.
Something like this has likely never happened in American history. The TV channels MS NOW and CNN interrupted the broadcast of the president’s address because it consisted of a stream of false claims.
After statements that
⇒ he built the most powerful economy in the world,
⇒ during his first term, he built the strongest military in the world, which was weakened after he left the White House, but is now once again the strongest in the world,
⇒ people in the US now pay the least in the world for prescription drugs, which he claims have fallen in price by 90%,
⇒ the US achieved a major victory in Venezuela and is close to a major victory in Iran,
Trump moved to the main part of his address.
The main part was dedicated to Trump’s assertion that in 2018 and 2020, China interfered in the US elections, with the goal, again according to Trump, in 2018 to have the Republicans lose the Congressional elections, and in 2020, for Trump to lose the presidential election.
He claimed to have declassified a supposedly vast amount of intelligence documents that the “deep state” had previously hidden and published these documents on the White House website. Documents did indeed appear there, though heavily redacted, but they were documents that the Senate and House Intelligence Committees had reviewed back in 2020 and found no evidence that China or anyone else manipulated the registration of American voters and reprogrammed the equipment used for voting and counting votes. Moreover, in 2020, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which was then headed by John Ratcliffe appointed by Trump (he is now the CIA director), released an open report stating there was no evidence of foreign manipulation of vote counting in the elections.
Trump claimed that there was voter registration fraud in Michigan orchestrated by the Democrats, and that he tasked the FBI with investigating it. This approach is not just authoritarian in style but in method, when the head of state directs a law enforcement body to investigate whatever he desires. By law, the FBI should conduct investigations based on the commission of crimes, not at the president’s whims and orders.
Trump also claimed (an absolutely false assertion) that the Department of Homeland Security supposedly found that 278,000 foreigners, who are non-citizens, were registered as voters.
In concluding his speech, the 47th president urged Congress to pass a law he is pushing, which he calls the “Save America Act,” under which Trump wants to ban mail-in voting and require all voters to re-register in person at election commissions with documents proving their American citizenship. Trump urged voters to call their members of Congress and demand they pass this bill.
It has already been explained that the goal of this bill is to isolate many residents of large cities who vote for Democrats from the elections (since people do not have the opportunity to stand in line for re-registration as voters on a workday, nor do they have the opportunity to vote on a workday at polling places. Additionally, 146 million Americans do not have passports because they do not travel abroad, and the majority of married women who have taken their husband’s last name do not have name change certificates, and thus, their birth certificates cannot automatically prove their citizenship).
There are no votes in the Senate to pass this bill because even not all Republicans are ready to vote for it.
It’s interesting: when Trump is in power and he and the Republicans lose elections, it means that China intervened to prevent him and the Republicans from winning (emphasizing once again – he is in power at this time). And when he is not in power, and there is a Democratic president in the White House, but he wins elections, it means that no one interferes in the elections. Because he wins them.
The president’s speech, rife with false and misleading statements, shows that he is preparing for a Republican defeat in the Congressional elections in November, will declare such a defeat a result of interference by China or Iran, and will attempt to disrupt the certification of election results in all districts and states where these results do not suit him.
This was precisely the warning given on the MS NOW channel in their comments regarding the president’s speech by the deputy chairs of the Senate Intelligence Committee Mark Warner and House of Representatives Jim Himes.

Jim Himes published an article in the New York Times a few hours before the president’s speech, in which he wrote, among other things:
“There are numerous ways he (Trump) can muddy the waters by abusing the powers of the presidency. He’s done it before.
Firstly, he can distort the content of classified intelligence.”
“Another tactic Mr. Trump may employ is presenting scattered, unverified information as proven fact. He or Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte could, for instance, declassify an unsubstantiated report containing a whistleblower’s sensational claim about election fraud. In reality, any collection of ‘raw’ intelligence data contains much false information. Sources can sometimes be unreliable—we learned this lesson fully after the disastrous invasion of Iraq in 2003. Quality intelligence analysis involves comparing hundreds of different information sources with expert assessments, allowing for information that can be verified and trusted.
Finally, if Mr. Trump decides to declassify intelligence related to the 2020 election, he would almost certainly selectively pick only those fragments meant to support his false claims. The conclusions drawn by the U.S. intelligence community after analyzing the 2020 election were made public, but the materials underlying them remained classified.
I have reviewed the most detailed version of this report, and the published findings fully align with classified data obtained from highly important and reliable sources, which require the strictest secrecy measures. The government is legally obliged to provide important information to the House Intelligence Committee, yet in almost six years, it has not provided any information that could cast doubt on these findings.
▶ Brief on other news
● Finance Minister Bessent announced on Wednesday that the US Treasury is starting to issue a $1 coin featuring Trump. Bessent previously proposed to Congress to amend the law, which prohibits portraits of living people on money, to issue a $250 bill featuring Trump’s portrait. Congress did not even consider Bessent’s proposal (and if they did, it would naturally have failed). However, it was found that the law specifically addresses the impossibility of featuring living people’s portraits on paper bills. It does not mention coins. Therefore, Scott Bessent found a way to satisfy the president’s vanity: in addition to his large portraits on government buildings in Washington, his “portrait” will now appear on a $1 coin.
● Hearings were held in two Senate committees for the appointments of the Attorney General, former Trump criminal defense attorney Todd Blanche, and the Director of National Intelligence, current federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton. It is evident that all Democrats on the Judiciary Committee will vote against Blanche’s appointment. If Republican Cornyn joins them (he says he hasn’t decided how he will vote), Blanche will not be confirmed as Attorney General. Most likely, all Democrats on the Intelligence Committee will vote against Clayton’s appointment, as he could not answer a question posed by several Democratic senators: who won the 2020 presidential election.
