This was expected. Don’t be surprised. Many articles will now appear, including in reputable foreign publications, explaining why Ukrainians should definitely acknowledge the “realities on the ground” and give up territories. And the arguments are not about the cost of war in terms of avoiding further casualties (which the authors hardly mention) but about something entirely different.
A recent article in a reputable publication goes even further: convincing us that shifting the Russian-Ukrainian border to the existing front line (!) and legally recognizing it (!!) will only benefit and favor Ukraine and Ukrainians (!!!).
I will not analyze the article in detail — read it. It’s useful for practicing argumentation skills and refuting a somewhat artificial, yet presented in a “scientific wrapper,” approach.
I have previously read works by these reputable authors — Peter Slezkine and Joshua Shifrinson. The titles of their previous articles speak for themselves:
Whither Is the West Drifting? Russia in Global Affairs
By Peter Slezkine
In Alaska, Trump Can Help Ukraine Accept Reality
By Emma Ashford & Peter Slezkine
Don’t Let Ukraine Join NATO…
By Justin Logan and Joshua Shifrinson
Ukrainian Security Guarantees Are Dangerous and Counterproductive…
By Joshua Shifrinson
We will be “rocked,” blackmailed, threatened, convinced, sometimes even deceived, and offered “simple ways”…
If it were all so simple, the war wouldn’t have lasted twelve years by now…
The only hope is that no one knows Ukraine from within and loves it as much as the Ukrainians themselves do.
