▶ The 47th president has again decided to openly show that he is putting pressure on Ukraine to force it to effectively capitulate.
In an interview with Politico on Thursday, Donald Trump stated:
“I think Putin is ready to make a deal. Zelenskyy needs to take initiative and make a deal. It’s unthinkable that he is the obstacle. You don’t have any cards. Now he has even fewer.”
Let’s set aside the fact that Trump still “plays cards” and is obviously not aware, for example, that Ukraine, over the past week, if not completely depriving Russia of the ability to export oil via the Black Sea, has greatly reduced such opportunities, simultaneously disabling four ships from the remnants of the Russian Black Sea fleet.
However, let’s look at two more steps taken by the administration on Thursday.
The Treasury issued a so-called general license, suspending sanctions against Russia for a month related to the export of Russian oil to India.
The US, along with Russia, China, and Niger, voted at the International Atomic Energy Agency board against a resolution condemning Russia’s strikes on distribution substations in Ukraine as leading to nuclear safety threats. The US representative called the resolution “untimely, as it might hinder peaceful negotiations.” The resolution was adopted by twenty votes against four.
No comments. Everything is perfectly clear here.
▶ On Thursday, the 47th president dismissed Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and announced that Republican Senator from Oklahoma Markwayne Mullin would be appointed as the new Secretary of Homeland Security.
Under Noem’s leadership, the number of immigration police was doubled, conducting raids on immigrants in various cities across the country and being used as a punitive force. The pinnacle of the immigration police’s “excesses” under Noem’s leadership was essentially a punitive expedition to Minneapolis, resulting in the killing of two US citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretty, whom Noem declared “domestic terrorists” following the killings.
Noem spent $220 million on an advertising campaign across all TV channels, appearing in commercials as a cowboy threatening immigrants. She also purchased luxury business jets with taxpayer money, equipped with lavish bedrooms, claiming they would be used alternatively as flying command centers or for deporting illegal immigrants.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Noem reported to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, where Democrats and some Republicans (notably Republican Senators Tillis and Kennedy) asked her many uncomfortable questions—about the illegal actions of immigration police, spending money on self-promotion and luxury jets, the corrupt nature of the advertising shoots, her reluctance to apologize to the families of those killed by her subordinates in Minneapolis for calling Rene Goode and Alexa Pretty “domestic terrorists,” her affair with Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s first campaign manager in 2016, whom she hired as a “special government employee” (an obscure position with a large salary), and who accompanied her on many trips across the country.
The media reports that Trump decided to fire her right after these hearings because he was displeased that she claimed she appeared in commercials in coordination with him and that he approved the budget for their production. It turns out she fabricated this “coordination” and “approval.”
People in Trump’s close circle told him that the negative perception of Noem among most Americans was adversely affecting his own ratings.
The media also reports on the truly Trumpian motives for appointing Senator Mullin as Noem’s successor, according to their sources in the White House. Mullin was elected to the Senate in 2022, after being elected five times to the House of Representatives. With Trump’s emergence in politics, he became a loyal Trump supporter. He frequently gives interviews to television channels, in which he constantly praises Trump and various aspects of his policies. This particularly attracted the president, who constantly watches television—he likes Mullin’s TV interviews.
▶ On Tuesday, the first party primaries took place in Texas, Arkansas, and North Carolina. The Republican primaries for the Senate candidate in Texas have not concluded—there will be a runoff. The incumbent senator, formerly a classic Republican and now a Trump loyalist, John Cornyn, decided to run against avid Trump supporter, Texas Attorney General Paxton (in 2023, he pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges and made a deal with the prosecution, paying a fine; in 2024, he was acquitted in an impeachment trial). Another Trump supporter interfered in the first round, taking some votes away from Cornyn and Paxton, so neither could achieve the coveted 50%. Therefore, there will be a runoff.
In the Democratic primaries for the Senate candidate, 36-year-old member of the Texas legislature, James Talarico, won. He defeated Jasmine Crockett, a member of the US House of Representatives. Talarico is a very charismatic, well-educated, committed liberal-centrist politically. At the same time, he is openly religious (which is important for Texas). He recently became known nationwide after CBS, now controlled by Trump-loyal billionaires, refused to broadcast an interview he gave to Stephen Colbert, the popular late-night show host, under a fabricated pretext. As a result, this interview was viewed over 18 million times on YouTube.
Democrats have not won a Senate race in Texas since 1988. It is quite possible that Talarico could seriously compete for victory in the upcoming elections on November 3. Especially if his opponent is Paxton. But even against Cornyn and the problems voters face due to the policies of Trump and the Republicans in Congress, Talarico has a chance.
▶ The war with Iran has been ongoing for six days. Its official objective has not been articulated, although Pentagon chief Hagset said at a briefing on Thursday, “we have clear goals, and our will is reinforced concrete.” However, he did not specify what the clear goals are.
The 47th president, in the same Politico interview mentioned above, essentially admitted that the aim of the war is regime change or even a change of the regime’s head in Iran. Here’s a quote from Politico:
“When asked about what influence he hopes to have on Iran’s future leadership, Trump replied: ‘I will have a great influence, otherwise there will be no deals, because we will not engage in this again.’”
“We will work with the people and the regime to ensure that someone comes to power who can develop Iran with dignity, but without nuclear weapons,” said Trump.
According to estimates cited by many Democratic members of Congress, the war costs the US at least $1 billion a day.
A poll conducted by CBS, the results of which were published on Thursday, shows that 56% of Americans disapprove of the war initiated by the president.
The Democrats’ attempt in Congress to pass a resolution requiring the president to obtain congressional permission to continue military actions failed. In the Senate, 47 senators voted for the resolution (46 Democrats and 1 Republican – Senator Paul), against – 53 (52 Republicans and 1 Democrat – Senator Fetterman). In the House of Representatives, 212 votes were cast for the resolution (210 Democrats and 2 Republicans), against – 219 (215 Republicans and 4 Democrats).
▶ Announcement. Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse from Rhode Island delivered a 48-minute speech on Thursday during a Senate plenary session. He spoke about the very close longstanding ties in the Trump-Epstein-Russia triangle. This very interesting and important speech by the senator will be the subject of the Saturday-Sunday review.
1052 days remain until the end of the story titled ‘Fear: Trump in the White House’ © (the title of Bob Woodward’s book, published in 2018).
Thank you to everyone who read. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Take care of each other, help each other. Good health to all.
Ultimately, what happens in the world depends on us. Whether we fight against evil, do good, remain just observers, passively wait and believe that someone somewhere will decide something for us, or fight against evil and do everything possible for Good to prevail.
We must not allow evil to win. The victory of evil would mean the end of the world we live in. We cannot allow this. Especially now.
Ukrainian friends, I embrace and love you all. Take care of each other, I implore you.
Ukraine is and always will be.
And evil will be defeated and punished. And this is certain.
