Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the defenders of Ukraine and all modern civilization!
Today in the issue:
- The 47th president decided to make February 24 a day of annual national disgrace
- Senator Adam Schiff on Trump’s address to Congress: state of delusion
▶ A year ago, I called February 24, 2025, a day of disgrace for the USA. Because on that day, the third anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the USA voted at the UN along with Russia and its satellites against a UN General Assembly resolution calling for an end to Russian aggression, the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and its sovereignty over its entire territory.
A year has passed.
A similar resolution was submitted to the UN General Assembly. This time the USA abstained from voting. Along with the majority of the Global South countries and Hungary. Which is no less disgraceful than a year ago.
A disgrace for a country that was recently regarded as the leader of the free world was also the deafening silence of all its officials and press services on the fourth anniversary of the start of the full-scale war and the twelfth anniversary of the start of Russian aggression against Ukraine. As if nothing is happening.
A disgrace for a country that was recently regarded as the leader of the free world was also a note sent in November to the Ukrainian embassy in Washington, stating that Ukraine should not strike the oil terminal in Novorossiysk – due to American investments in Kazakh oil. Investments of Trump’s friends from the company Chevron. This was revealed on Tuesday by Ukraine’s ambassador to the USA, Olga Stefanishyna. Apparently, American factories in Ukraine, which Russia purposefully and repeatedly targeted with missiles, do not belong to the president’s friends. Since after all these strikes, official Washington remained silent. As if nothing is happening.
But these were, as they say, just the flowers of disgrace.
▶ The “berry” on this “cake” of disgrace, its crowning moment, was the 47th president’s address to Congress in the evening on Tuesday, February 24, on the “State of the Union” – the state of the country.
Senator Adam Schiff released a video on YouTube on Wednesday with his commentary on the president’s address titled “State of Delusion.”
Very apt and precise.
Presidents deliver addresses annually, usually in February, at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This is not an obligation, but a long-standing tradition that has become a significant event in the era of television. Therefore, to allow most of the country to watch these addresses live, they begin at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.
Trump’s address set a record for duration. He spoke for 1 hour and 47 minutes, interspersing false statements, which are difficult to count, with self-praise and periodic insults directed at Democrats and Somali immigrants.
The 47th president brazenly lied and proclaimed absurdities, while the Republican members of Congress, Vice President Vance, and Speaker Johnson behind him rose from their seats in a frenzy of applause. I counted 60 such ovations, reminiscent of the “Stormy, prolonged applause. Everyone stands” clichés from transcripts of speeches by party secretaries at Soviet conventions. After 60, I stopped counting. There were actually more.
Republicans went into a frenzy at almost every second phrase uttered from the podium, at any absurdity coming from the leader.
Trump declares that thanks to him, the Christian religion has been revived in the US in a year – applause.
That thanks to him, American hockey players became Olympic champions – applause.
That thanks to him, there is unprecedented economic growth in history – applause (in reality, the US economy grew by only 2.2% in 2025, the worst since 2020. By comparison, the economy grew by 2.8% in 2024).
That thanks to him, gas prices have dropped to almost the lowest in history, now averaging less than $2.30 per gallon nationally – applause (in reality, gas costs $2.95 per gallon on average, and in January 2025 it was $3.12 per gallon).
That a law should be passed to abolish income tax and replace it with tariffs that foreign countries will pay for selling their goods in the US (complete absurdity) – applause.
That he forced NATO countries to pay 5% “for military defense,” “while before they didn’t want to pay 2%, and we paid for many of them” – applause (in reality, NATO countries, of course, pay nothing to the 47th president, but decided that their defense budgets should be 5% of their respective GDP).
He boasts that “everything we send to Ukraine is channeled through NATO, and they pay us in full. They pay us absolutely completely” – applause.
Think about his last claim. The Republican president of the USA boasts that the US no longer helps Ukraine, and that “they” (NATO, as if the US is not a NATO member and founder of the Alliance) pay for aid to Ukraine, and Republican members of Congress offer applause.
He disparages the Supreme Court’s decision declaring his customs tariffs unconstitutional – applause.
He is proud of having stopped “eight wars” (they even wrote down which ones, so he wouldn’t claim one was between Albania and Cambodia) – applause.
And so on, and so on, and so on…
It’s simply impossible to list everything he said in 1 hour and 47 minutes. And there’s no point in doing so.
It doesn’t matter what he says. It doesn’t matter at all. All his words are white noise from his virtual world, which he tries to use to replace, to shield himself, and most importantly, those who still listen to him, from the real world.
Several dozen Democratic members of Congress boycotted his speech, simply not attending, and organized a rally near the Capitol, where many people gathered to listen to Democratic politicians. A number of other Democrats walked out during the 47th president’s speech.
It seems that it would be most appropriate for all Democrats to boycott this madness.
Every president whose messages to Congress I have seen, heard, or read has always used these speeches as an opportunity to unite the country around something, to emphasize what is important for all Americans, to propose unifying projects or measures that could improve people’s lives and the country’s position in the world.
The 47th president, with his speech on Tuesday, further divided an already divided country. When the head of state declares from a high official platform that the parliamentary opposition, which constitutes almost half of the parliament and represents more than half the population (compare the representation of two Democratic senators from 40-million-strong California with that of two Republican senators from Wyoming, which has a population of less than a million), is insane and sick, it only shows that this head of state desires absolute power.
But there is a silver lining in all this. The self-proclaimed candidate for dictatorship, like his associates who were wildly ecstatic over his statements, actually appeared grotesque. And if you want to be a dictator but portray yourself as the emperor with no clothes, aided by your entourage, then you don’t even need a boy from Andersen’s tale to say out loud what everyone can see. Because it is indeed apparent to everyone.
There are 1,060 days left until the end of the story called “Fear: Trump in the White House” © (the title of Bob Woodward’s book published in 2018).
The next news release from the USA will be on Saturday, February 28, in the evening, American time.
Thank you to everyone who read. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Take care of each other and support one another. Health to all.
Ultimately, what happens in the world depends on us. Whether we fight evil, do Good, remain mere spectators, passively wait, believing someone somewhere will make decisions for us, or fight evil and do everything possible for Good to prevail.
We must not allow evil to win. The victory of evil would mean the end of the world we live in. We cannot allow this. Especially now.
Ukrainian Friends, I embrace and love you all. Please take care of each other, I ask you sincerely.
Ukraine is and will always be.
And evil will be defeated and punished. This is inevitable.
