The “European Solidarity” faction met with the new Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine, Tamara Mawhinney, and her team. We thanked Canada for its consistent support throughout the war; however, the deterioration of the security situation, terror against civilian cities, and destruction of critical infrastructure require strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. This is one of the key needs.
We separately touched on the issues of sanctions and frozen Russian assets. Canadian visas remain among the most difficult for Ukrainians to obtain, yet somehow Russians responsible for the war manage to secure them. We urged not to recognize the legitimacy of the new State Duma of the Russian Federation.
We discussed the new century-long agreement between the countries, which should be filled with concrete content. We advocate for its ratification by the parliaments of both countries and support the activation of inter-parliamentary dialogue.
With the Canadian embassy team, we conversed on the day when the Verkhovna Rada, thanks to “European Solidarity” votes, unblocked 4 billion euros of international financial aid. So we talked a lot about internal policy, the need for real, not superficial, anti-corruption efforts and reforms, the creation of a government of national unity, the intellectual incapacity of the current government, and the personnel collapse, the plan to coerce Russia into peace by force. Our team consistently advocates for the democratic development of Ukraine even during martial law.
We are pleased to welcome the Ambassador to our office!
