President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the US has set a new deadline for reaching a peace agreement by the beginning of June, and we are very keen to keep the US in the process…
Obvious questions arise:
1. Why was the previous deadline missed, if Ukraine did everything possible to meet the desires of the American delegation and the President of the USA? Who failed?
2. June of which year? If this year, why June and not, say, May or July?
3. What will extending the deadline achieve if the pressure from mediators continues to be applied only to one side of the negotiations, namely Ukraine?
4. Will there finally be concrete measures of pressure on the Russian regime?
5. Why is there no adequate reaction to the terrorist actions of the Russian Federation, and now attempts to deprive Ukrainians of basic needs for living?
6. What else has to happen by June: the advance of Russian troops in the Donetsk region up to its administrative borders; the complete destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure; massive killings of Ukrainians, so that the “conditions for peace” are ready?
7. If a deadline has been set, why can’t agreements on security parameters be made right now? Will this also be a lever of pressure on Ukraine (a strange approach for mediation).
8. Will European countries continue to be mostly passive observers, or will they finally start playing their own game, jointly with Ukraine?
9. Shouldn’t the delegations handle domestic matters and stop creating the illusion of a supposedly successful negotiation process?
10. Why is there no mention of an unconditional ceasefire and truce as a prerequisite for any negotiations, as this was the official position of the USA and personally Donald Trump?
And the main question: can such a path really lead to lasting peace, or will it just be a simulation aimed at demotivating Ukraine’s partners from providing weapon and resource support while allowing Russian war criminals and their accomplices to continue aggressive war in Europe?
